The blessing was a pronouncement of enrichment and often prophetic, as in the case of godly men in the Scriptures.  Other examples of blessings include Noah to Japheth and Shem (Gen. 9:26-27), Jacob to the tribes of Israel (Gen. 49), and Moses to the tribes of Israel at a later time (Deut. 33:1-29).
